Mobile medical alert pendants do not use a medical alert base in the home the way basic medical alert systems do, so the user can leave the house and still summon help by pushing a button on the device. Instead, a mobile system may include a GPS chip allowing the emergency call center to identify the user’s location.
Traditional medical alerts only work within a home, because the base must communicate with the pendant or other button device using a signal similar to that used by a cordless phone.
